Two held with 100 kg marijuana in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS): Two people, including a woman, were arrested here for carrying 100 kg of marijuana worth Rs.1 crore in the international market, police said on Wednesday.

Rahul, 22, was arrested along with his 29-year-old woman associate near Anand Vihar in east Delhi on Monday while they were on their way to deliver the consignment of marijuana from Lamtapur in Odisha in a car.

They informed police that one Manjeet enticed them to work for him by offering a lucrative amount for supply of marijuana from Odisha to Delhi.

Manjeet suggested that police personnel would assume them to be a married couple and not suspect they were carrying consignments of marijuana, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.

The official said Manjeet used to give Rs.10,000 each to Rahul and his woman associate for the delivery of every consignment to his contacts in Delhi.

"They used to get the consignments of marijuana from one of Manjeet's contacts, namely, Mama from the forests of Lamtapur," the official said.

Police said Manjeet is presently lodged in Tihar jail for the past three months in a drug trafficking case.

Rahul, who hails from Rajasthan, shifted with his family to Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi about 15 years ago and came in contact with Manjeet two years back.

The woman accused came in contact with him about 4-5 years ago and joined forces with him to make money to meet the needs of her poor family.
