Karwar: Gas tanker tragedy - death toll rises to five

Karwar, Sep 4: With another person succumbing to burn injuries suffered when a LPG bullet tanker moving towards Goa from Mangaluru fell down the gorge and went up in flames on Tuesday August 1, the death toll has gone up to five.

On Thursday, Srikant Sheshu Patgar (57), husband of Jayashree Patgar, who was deputy range forest officer at Katagal, and his neighbour, Shakeela Harikantra (33) died due to their injuries. In this tragedy, four members of a single family, Nagaveni Jattu Patgar, her husband, Srikant, daughter, Jayashree, and son, Bharat, have lost
their lives.

Under the directions of Uttara Kannada district deputy commissioner, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, to which the ill-fated LPG tanker belongs, has been meeting all the treatment expenses of patients of this tragedy.

    Will any accountability be fixed on the various organizations/departments involved in LPG transportation towards negligence/non-adherence to mandatory safety measures.
