Coal block case: Former coal secretary granted bail

New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS): A special court hearing a coal block allocation case allegedly involving Nagpur-based Grace Industries Ltd. (GIL) on Friday granted bail to former coal secretary H.C. Gupta and other people.

Special Judge Bharat Parashar also granted bail to coal ministry's former joint secretary K.S. Kropha, the director for geology and mining under the Maharashtra government Vishwas Sawakhande, and the company GIL's directors Mukesh Gupta and Seema Gupta.

The court directed them to furnish a personal bond of Rs.1 lakh each and a surety of like amount each.

The court -- which was hearing a matter pertaining to allocation of the Lohara (east) coal block in Maharashtra to GIL -- posted the matter for September 21.

The court on January 19 had directed the CBI to conduct further probe into the alleged collusion between public servants and company officials in a case related to the allocation of coal blocks in which the CBI had charge-sheeted GIL and one of its directors Mukesh Gupta.
