Bangladesh blogger's murder suspects remanded again

Dhaka, Sep 4 (IANS): A Bangladeshi court again remanded two suspected killers of secular blogger Niladri Chatterjee Niloy in police custody for four days, the media reported on Friday.

Kawsar Hossain Khan and Kamal Hossain, arrested on August 27, were presented before Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after their five-day remand ended, bdnews24 reported.

The case’s investigating officer, Detective Branch Inspector Mahmudur Rahman, had sought custody of the duo for another seven days.

But Magistrate Lutfor Rahman Shishir granted four days to question them.

Niloy was hacked to death at his east Goran residence in Dhaka on August 7.

Niloy’s wife Asha Moni filed the murder case at Khilgaon police station accusing four unidentified persons.

Niloy was the fourth blogger to be murdered this year. Three other bloggers -- Avijit Roy, Oyasiqur Rahman Babu and Ananta Bijoy Das -- were also killed in a similar manner.

All four were involved with the 'Ganajagaran Mancha', a movement demanding maximum penalty for those who committed war crimes during the 1971 Bangladesh freedom struggle and a ban on religion-based politics.
