Deposit weapons ahead of elections


Ghaziabad, Sep 4 (IANS): Authorities in Ghaziabad have asked people here to deposit their licensed weapons in view of upcoming Panchayat elections.

Official sources said that on the directions of the Election Commission, the Ghaziabad district magistrate had formed a screening committee to identify people whose arms are to be deposited with police.

The panel will look into the people's crime history, political leanings and suspected involvement in riots in the past.
