Jadavpur varsity seeks report on alleged ragging

Kolkata, Sep 4 (IANS): Jadavpur University authorities on Friday sought a report from its anti-ragging committee on the issue of alleged ragging of two of its students.

Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das received the complaint on Thursday and said steps would be taken in accordance with law.

"After receiving the complaint, I have met the dean of students in this regard. The (anti-ragging cell) committee will meet and steps will taken in accordance with law," Das told the media here.

The committee has been asked to submit a report within a week, he said.

Jahangir Hossain, a student who claims to have raised his voice against ragging, said that he and his friend were grabbed by the neck and pushed outside the university's hostel.

They said that a group of students have been pressuring them to stay silent over an alleged molestation incident, which took place earlier this year.
