Udupi, Sep 5: Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj paid a surprise visit to the RTC office in Bannanje, Udupi taluk, on Friday September 4 following complaints from the public.

During the visit, the Tahasildar was present at the taluk office. The MLA observed the activity in the office and its surroundings, then told the Tahasildar to maintain cleanliness in the office.

There is only one fan in the hall with the computer operating hall which needs repair. The MLA suggested that it be repaired soon. There is no seating facility at the office.

There was a long queue in front of the data entry booth and one of the officials explained to the MLA that though each file needs just a second to record in the computer, the process was delayed due to the slow server. There is only one server available in the taluk office which is connected to the Bengaluru office.
As there were frequent complaints in delay of land conversion work and data entry work, the MLA said that the first priority goes to individual RTC. “The officials should accept applications and speed up the work. They should give second preferences to bulk files which come through agents. If agents get delayed waiting in long queues, they can come when the queue eases up,” he said.

He expressed concern that seniors were waiting at the booth. The MLA said that public interest is more important than anything and there should no longer be any complaints heard against the RTC office.

This is not the first time or the last such visit and surprise visits will at the least prompt government officials to work quicker.
