Udupi, Sep 5: District level Teachers’ Day celebration committee, Udupi in collaboration with Dr G Shankar Family Trust Ambalpady Udupi observed District level Teachers’ Day 2015 at Shamili auditorium here on Saturday September 5.
















Vinay Kumar Sorake, urban development and district-in-charge minister, Udupi inaugurated the program by offering flowers to Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan’s photo and by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion he said, "We treat all teachers as equal to God."

He also said that due to the hard work and dedication of the teachers, the district has stood top in SSLC results, second place in PUC and CET in the state. One of the scholars from Udupi has made us proud by occupying the eighth rank in the UPSC exam. The district is also marked top in ‘akshara dasoha’ and ‘sarva shikshana abhiyana’. Our district is known for quality education. Teachers are directly accountable for cultivating social consciousness among the public. We win over children’s hearts by love.

A capable teacher has the power of changing an individual’s mind. Guru is not just restricted to his noble position, but he is also guru for the whole society.

He urged the support of all the teachers to bring in best results in the future examinations.

G Shankar in his keynote address stated that the situation of the district level guest lecturers (considering primary, high school) is pathetic. They are paid Rs 3000 a month. So the state government must pay attention to increasing their remuneration to Rs 10, 000.

The committee felicitated ten ideal teachers with ‘district teacher award’. They are (primary teachers) Ravindra Hegde (assistant teacher, Government Primary School, Nellikatte, Mudradi, Karkala district), Reethi Y (assistant teacher Government Higher primary School, Hejmady, Udupi district), Vedhavathi (assistant teacher Sri Dharmasthala Higher Primary School, Mayadi, Byndoor), Ashok Thekatte (assistant teacher Government Higher Primary School, Heskathur, Kundapur), H Sukaram (head teacher B B Hegde aided Higher primary school, Kilanje, Bramhavar Zone).

High school teachers felicitated were Kiran Hedge (assistant teacher, Government High school, Kavady, Bramhavar Zone), Prabakar Mitthayanth(assistant principal Government Pre- university College, Koteshwara, Kundapura zone), DK Kishore Kumar Shetty (assistant teacher Government High School, Hakladi, Byndoor Zone), B Gunakar Shetty (headmaster U Kamalabai High school, Kadyali, Udupi zone), Prakash Nayak (assistant teacher, Government Pre- university College , Bailoor, Karkala zone).

Many other awards for best teacher of non-aided school, best achieved teachers, best school were distributed on the occasion.

The program began with invocation by teacher Nataraj.

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, Zilla Panchayat president Savitha S Kotian, CMC Commissioner T Manjunathaiah, taluk panchayat president Sunita Nayka, Mangala Shetty and others were present.

H Diwakar Shetty welcomed the gathering and Ravishankar Rao delivered the vote of thanks.

Kudi Vasanth Shetty compered the program.
