Kundapur: Two arrested for supply of deer skin

Kundapur, Sep 5: Kundapur station police in a swift action have arrested two persons illegally supplying deer skin near Kalavara on the evening of Friday September 4. Deer skin worth Rs 25,000 was recovered from them.











The operation was conducted on the guidance of Kundapur Dy SP and CPI after receipt of definite information that deer skin is being transported from Haladi via Koteshwar road. While the police stopped bikes at Kalavara junction for inspection, a Hero Honda bike speeding towards Koteshwar aroused their suspicion. When the bike was intercepted the bike rider reduced the speed and tried to flee from there.

The police chased and caught them. On inspection they found that the pillion rider had a light green coloured bag with a bad odour. Further inspection revealed the half dried skin of deer in it. They were
taking the skin for sale in Udupi.

The accused are identified as resident of Andagi grama, Sirsi taluk, Uttara Kannada district resident Mohammed Shafi(26) and Giddihalli, Gendla Panchayat, Soraba taluk, Shivamogga district resident Mustafa(35). Mustafa is said to be the husband of Mohammed Shafi's elder sister.

As the accused were illegally trying to sell the deer skin the police cases under column 9, 39, 40, 44 and 57 under wildlife protection Act 1972 were slapped on them.

Police crime branch head constable Udaya Kunder, police constables Prakash, Ashwin, Nagendra and Prasanna participated in the operation.
