Muslim Board to campaign against imposition of Brahminical culture

Hyderabad, Sep 5 (IANS): The All India Muslim Personal Law Board, the apex body of Indian Muslims, has decided to launch a nationwide campaign against attempts by the government to impose Brahminical culture and vedic dharam.

Voicing concern over the threats posed to the religious and cultural identity of minorities and other groups, the board announced the launch of the 'deen aur dastur bachao' (save religion and constitution) campaign.

The board has also involved other minority groups and organisations from the depressed classes in the campaign.

Stating that an "alarming" situation was prevailing in the country, AIMPB general secretary Moulana Sajjad Naomani told a news conference here on Saturday that the attempts to impose a Brahminical social order and rituals like yoga, surya namaskar and Vande Mataram were against the Indian Constitution.

"This is not bothering just Muslims but also all other social and religious units. As the largest minority, the board took up the responsibility to take all along and launch a movement to save our faith and constitution," he said.

As part of the campaign public meetings, seminars and symposiums would be organised to bring about public awareness and to demand implementation of the constitution in letter and spirit.

The board also plans to wage a legal battle by challenging the imposition of Brahminical rituals. It will also challenge in the Supreme Court the orders of the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan high courts, which ruled that rituals like surya namaskar should be optional.

"Even optional is against the constitution. Imposing culture of a particular community on all is not fair," he said.

When asked if the board would also make a representation to the prime minister or home minister, he said this was not on their agenda for now.

Naomani said it is shameful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi says one thing and then does something else.

"We have no objection to what he is saying. What all he is saying is good but there is so much difference in what he says and what he is doing. Our movement is against his actions not his statements," he said.

The Muslim leader said minorities can't be deprived of their religious and social identity in the same of development. "On one side you talk of development and on the other you want to deprive minorities of religious and social identity and you take actions and make legislations for this," he said.

He also took strong exception to the prime minister's meetings with the RSS leaders and said this was a government of India and not a government of Hindus and Brahmins.

"Muslims can never compromise on their faith come what may. The community is disturbed with the developments," he said while pointing out that India is a secular democratic country and the constitution guarantees religious freedom.

Naomani said some forces were bent upon distracting the community from its fundamental faith and way of life. He cited examples of large scale changes in the education system and changes in the syllabus of schools and colleges.

The board leaders claimed that efforts were being made to amend the laws, which may affect Muslim personal laws.

"The communal forces are upbeat with the support of people at the helm of affairs. The growing communalism is not only a danger to the Muslim community but also to other religious, cultural and social groups. This communalism will hamper the growth and well being of the people," the board said.

AIMPB secretary Moulana Vali Rehmani and other key figures including AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, Abdul Raheem Qureshi and Moulana Khalid Saifullah Rehmani were also present.

Are these people trying to float a new party? It looks like trying to gain votes. Is there a problem in this country for minorities? You enjoy a lots of benefits provided by India, eg. education aids to your institutions , reservation in jobs, Assistance in marriages, low interest loans, Haj subsidy and many more. I dont think you should complain or raise awareness.

The people who do their work properly and eat right food don't require yoga and other therapy. It is not at all required for a pious Muslim who performs namaz five times a day in a proper way . But that doesn't mean that Muslim cannot do yoga . Muslims can also do yoga provided he gets time for that. The fact of the matter is that he does not get time if he prays five times in congregation. Further if one looks at the statistics of population of 2011 census, Muslims life expectancy is higher than rest , have favorable sex ratio . If Muslims follow their faith in letter and spirit respecting plural culture of India no agitation is required

"There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taught and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. Keep spreading fear of Brahman culture for consolidation of votes. People who fear extinction despite growing in numbers will always fall for it. Someday at some point some doctor will ask to do yoga for your BP, probably abuse him then and keep continuing the agitation. Consolidation is the need of the hour for congress and other regional parties and some fanatics, there's a large scale conversion going on in Europe for residency.

What is Brahminical culture? Brahmins are a fraction of percentage in India and they can impose their culture on others? Seriously? Our PM is a Dalit and not a Brahmin by the way. In several instances we have seen that chief ministerships were not offered to more eligible Brahmin candidates because they are brahmins (example V S Acharya).
However, if you call Indian culture as Brahminical culture, I don't have any counter argument. By the way, I presume this argument is not about religion, but about culture presumably.

It is all ways the case with people of your ilk to make issues out of non issues. cry victimhood when in minority but when in majority impose your faith on unwilling Majority.

It is always good to learn about other religions and traditions. But, when some religions are trying to impose their religion and traditions upon others through force, how to define that terminology?

Who made the traditions? They are man-made for their selfishness and pleasure which was imposed on the weaker sections of the society. If we are in the 21st century acting like gullible and naïve people to swallow the traditions, that is very dangerous which will disintegrate the whole nation.

Let the BJP take the whole credit in taking India back to the great Hindu culture and traditions.

At first, introduce "devadsi", then 'Sathi".

If we go to Donavoor, Tamil Nadue we can see the burial place of a saint called ' Amy Carmichael' who left her country, came to India to rescue the helpless girls thrown to the "devadasi" service to entertain the Temple Priest.

Those political leaders who are so fired up in imposing the old traditions like "Sathi" and "Devasi" but practice that in their personal lives. No, they won't offer their daughters for devadasi divine business, but only the girls from the lowest stratum of the society.

India through the hidden underground movement is shifting towards a theocratic country since BJP came into power, which is noticed by the electorate of India and abroad instead of moving forward but trying to shifting backward.

Please understand that the vast majority of the people voted for Mr. Modi was for economic reasons, to get a better life in India but the religious fanatics of the party are driving India to the wrong direction.

Sir, I grew up with Hindus in my small village in love and peace, now while visiting India, I see jobless RSS people wandering around and the old time harmony is a bygone history.

Good initiative AIMPLB. Need of the hour. My religion,my culture etc etc should be followed at home and holy places, not to be imposed on others. If that was the case then Gulf nations would have imposed non muslims to go to masjid on Juma'a,observe fasting in Ramadhan etc.saffron bhakths are narrow minded and so intolerant which is seen in last 10 years. We, as an Indian must focus on how we can get out of corruption and corrupt ministers And make 1rupee =1 dollar.
Youths should understand hidden agenda of politicians on high chairs, they want you to b busy with drugs ,communal clash, trafficking so that the chair is retained to their class only.Get out of this and educate yourself. We want youths to be white collared politicians, and not white hair eating ghutkas and saying rape from 4 -5 boys is impossible etc.
We donot want bluffers, we want practitioners who ll inspire us to do good things. We donot want grey collar officers who bribe in the name of power.Chanting jai sree ram while stripping youth will only subjugate Indian dignity infront of Pakistan and internationally.
India is virtually paralysed.Let her get back to normal Let her shine
