Hoax bomb call involving three flights creates panic

New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS): Security agencies were in a tizzy after a hoax bomb call involving three international flights created panic at the national capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport early Saturday, CISF said.

An unidentified mobile call regarding live bombs in three international flights of Swiss Airways, Jet Airways and Cathay Pacific Airways was received at a Gurgaon-based call centre of DIAL, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official said.

A joint team comprising personnel from CISF, Delhi Police, bomb disposal squad, fire service and intelligence agencies was rushed to the spot immediately.

According to the official, the Swiss Airways flight was to take off for Zurich while the Jet Airways and the Cathay Pacific Airways flights were scheduled to fly to Hong Kong.

"All the flights carrying around 500 passengers were scheduled to fly from Delhi around 2 a.m. on Saturday. Just after getting the information of bomb, these flights were properly checked for over 3-4 hours," said a CISF official.

All the three flights were given the green signal between 7 a.m. and 8.30 a.m., one after another, he said.

Police said they have traced the number but the caller is yet to be nabbed.
