Veterans finally satisfied with OROP

New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS): The differences between the government and veterans over the definition of 'One Rank One Pension' (OROP) finally appeared to be settled after a meeting between Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and representatives of ex-servicemen on Saturday.

Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh (retd) told reporters after the meeting that they discussed the issue of OROP being denied to those who take premature retirement.

"Premature retirement was the one point we wanted to discuss. The defence minister confirmed there is no VRS in the armed forces, there is just premature retirement," said the retired major general.

"After this statement, yes, we are satisfied," he added.

He said a decision on calling off the agitation will be taken soon.

The OROP announced by the government has 2013 as the base year, and July 1, 2014 as the date of implementation. Review and equalisation of salaries will be done every five years.
