Pakistan is responsible nuclear power: Sharif

Islamabad, Sep 6 (IANS): Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power, and wants peaceful relations with all neighbours, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said.

The prime minister made the comments in a message on Pakistan's golden jubilee celebrations of Defence Day on Sunday.

Pakistan, he said, "is a responsible nuclear power" and desired peaceful relations with all the neighbours "on the basis of sovereign equality", Radio Pakistan reported.

Sharif said Pakistani armed forces "can go to any extent in securing its borders and safeguarding its sovereignty".

The military was also determined to eliminate terrorism, he added.

In another message, President Mamnoon Hussain said Pakistan was "fully aware of the conspiracies and tactics" of its enemies.

Pakistan, he said, wanted peace in the region but its desire for peace must not be construed as weakness.
