Mangalore, Jun 30: A four-year-old girl was run over by a school bus at Addur in Bajpe limits near here on Friday June 29.
The deceased has been identified as Niriksha Alva, a student of Sahara English Medium School.
The accident occured when Niriksha was on her way to the school. She was walking behind the school bus when the bus moved bakcwards after its axil got cut. As a result Niriksha was run over by the bus and sustained serious injuries. The bus cleaner who tried to stop the bus from moving backwards too sustained injuries in the mishap.
Niriksha was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead. As soon as the news of her death spread across, people started thronging to the school. Though a bit of tension prevailed in the area, police took control over the situation.
Some locals later said that the school is situated on the top of the slop and there is a lack of basic amenities in the school. Even the approach road to the school is not well constructed which is the major reason that vehicles bringing students to the school have to stop half the way, they complained.
