President greets Brazil on Independence Day


New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday greeted Brazil on the occasion of its Independence Day.

In a message to his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff, President Mukherjee said: "... it gives me great pleasure to felicitate you, the government and the people of the Federative Republic of Brazil on the occasion of your Independence Day."

He said India and Brazil enjoy warm and cordial relations, which have "evolved into a strategic partnership, characterised by multi-faceted engagements covering a range of activities in the political, economic and cultural fields".

"Our co-operation in BRICS, IBSA, BASIC and G4 adds even greater salience to our engagement," President Mukherjee said.

Brazil declared its independence from Portugal on September 7, 1822.
