Two army personnel killed in Egypt bombing

Cairo, Sep 7 (IANS): An army officer and a soldier were killed on Monday in an explosion in Egypt's Sinai peninsula, a security source said.

An army official and a military personnel were killed when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Sinai peninsula, Xinhua quoted the official as saying.

Egypt has been rocked by a spate of violent attacks on security personnel since the army removed former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his rule.

Hundreds of army and police personnel were killed in the attacks, most of which were claimed by Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, a Sinai-based militant group that declared allegiance to the Islamic State last year and changed its name to "Sinai State".
