Bihar to have five-phase polls from Oct 12, counting on Nov 8

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI): Bihar will have five-phase Assembly elections between October 12 and November 5 and counting of votes will take place on November 8.

Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi today said polls to the 243-seat Assembly will be held on October 12, 16, 28, November 1 and 5.

The term of the current Assembly expires on November 29. Noting that a number of important festivals like Dussehra, Eid, Muharram, Diwali and Chhath will fall in the election period, he said the Commission will ensure communal harmony and peace.

Flanked by Election Commissioners Achal Kumar Jyoti and Om Prakash Rawat, Zaidi told a press conference that more than adequate security arrangements have been made by the election body to ensure peaceful, free and fair polls in state where over 47 constituencies are hit by Naxal violence.

There are over 6.68 crore voters in the state. BJP-led NDA and the grand alliance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his foe-turned-friend Lalu Prasad and Congress are locked in a close fight with the election results likely to have a strong bearing on the national political scene.

The polls have been billed as a must-win for BJP if it is to restore the political momentum in favour of Narendra Modi government after suffering reverses over a host of issues, starting from its rout in Delhi Assembly polls and failure to push ahead with reforms like land bill and GST.

Don't compare Delhi assembly election results to Bihar, Bihar is different kettle of fish, Bihar voters have always voted on caste base, except in 2014 Lok Sabha poll they voted differently, it may give surprised results this time around, most probably hung assembly, Delhi CM Mr.. Kejriwal speaks about corruption free govt, but what is he doing in Bihar campaigning Nitish-Lalu alliance, Lalu is a biggest crook who faces corruption charges, who is on bail and has been disqualified from contesting any election for 6 years till courts final verdict. That means Kejriwal is two faced, he is supporting corruption, by sharing a stage with crooks like Lalu & Nitesh and talk against corruption. Nitesh Kumar might be a mass leader, but his joining hands with corrupt, crook Lalu is pure opportunistic. Bihar voters are smart, especially youth, they have already made up their mind.
Bihar is not Delhi, don't live in the illusion of Delhi results.
Either way outcome of the election will effect Bihar & its progress.
Wait till the results are announced on 8th November 2015, you will know the answer.

Lexy, you're saying 'Bihar voters have always voted on caste base' and in the same breath you're adding 'Bihar voters are smart'
Do you mean to say, cast base voters are smart?

Arvind is being accused of being two-faced. I would like to ask Sydney-Mangaluru, how many faces does Modi have ?
Persons like Nitin Gadkari, Vasundhara, Shivraj Vyapam, Sush aunty, Pankaja, Nihalchand to name a few.
Just because one enjoys popularity among voters and holds a coveted post with a following of dedicated bhakts does not make one 'dudh ka dhula hua'.

This election is the most interesting election after Delhi assembly election. Mr Nitish Kumar leads an alliance that has vowed to hand the BJP its second defeat this year, after a string of wins starting with the national election last year. As Mr. Kejriwal has taken a lead in wooing the young voters of Bihar towards Mr. Nitish Kumar Alliance the balance may tilt against NDA led by BJP. Therefore, it is an advantage for Mr. Nitish. During Delhi assembly election many had predicted BJP victory but the results proved otherwise. PM Modi will have a tough time and he should stop his foreign tours for the sake of Bihar election. It is a do and die battle for our PM. Let the better combination win this election and we can only wait and see. Long live our Secular and Democratic India.

..BIHAR heading for a backstab politics..Just cant believe LALU, MANJHI..JDU or BJP must get a majority, otherwise LALU even with 25-30 MLA may become CM (if not unqualified by SC)..CONGRESS acting like headless chicken..for them no worry even if it looses all seats but MODI should not win..its funny that when every one campaigning in BIHAR, CONGRESS VP planning farmers rally in ORISSA!! exactly what he did during DELHI election & got complete white wash..It seems CONGRESS just want PM post..

Simple majority for NDA with more than 140 seats in a pro development manifesto

The opportunistic alliance of JDU, RJD & Dongis need to be shown the door. During EMERGENCY, the same Nitish & Lalu JAILED by Congress, now Dongi party fighting for survival. Last time they contested 243 seats, winning 4 seats, this year 40 seats, most probably ZERO for Dongi party!! CONGRESS MUKTH Bihar ki Jai!!
