Arrested suspects planned to attack Pakistani city

Islamabad, Sep 10 (IANS): Two alleged members of a banned outfit have been arrested for planning to stage attacks in Pakistan's Lahore city, police said.

During a routine security check, police stopped a car on suspicion but its occupants opened fire and tried to escape while leaving their vehicle behind, Dawn online reported on Thursday.

They were identified as Asad and Mutahir and police suspected them to be Al Qaeda members.

Crime Investigation Agency Superintendent of Police Umar Virk said initial investigation revealed the suspects were planning to attack seven locations in Lahore and were also involved in smuggling arms and ammunition across the country.
