Mangalore, Jul 3: Illegal liquor worth Rs 3.04 lac was seized from a house near Kinya under Ullal police station limits here, on Monday July 2.
According to the police, the highway squad that conducted the raid stated that in the course of the raid they seized 35 litres of spirit in 15 cans and 3500 arrack pouches. A pick-up vehicle with a registration number of Kerala and other articles used to produce liquor was also confiscated.
The government had banned sale of liquor from July 1. Despite the ban, on the very next day itself this illegal liquor was seized. If one were to observe the spot where the liquor was manufactured, it is quite obvious that over several days the distilling of illicit liquor was being carried out.
The main accused one Aravind from Kunjattur and four others have been absconding since the raid, police sources informed. In a separate raid, the excise department special squad seized 8,000 arrack sachets at Ekkur, on the outskirts of the city on Sunday night.
