Damascus, Sep 10 (IANS): At least 41 people including 18 Syrian security personnel and 23 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed in clashes around a military airport in Deir al-Zur province, a monitoring group said on Thursday.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), among the dead are two suicide bombers, including one minor, who attacked a missile base and the airport's surroundings on Wednesday night, Efe news reported.
The Syrian air force conducted air strikes against the jihadis.
The whole province of Deir al-Zur is dominated by jihadis, except some districts of the capital which are in the hands of the regime.
On Wednesday, Al Nusra Front seized control of the airport of Abu al-Duhur, the last military base of the regime in the northern province of Idlib, which was besieged for more than two years.
