Uber, Tamil Nadu ink deal for entrepreneurial opportunities

Chennai, Sep 10 (IANS): Cab service provider Uber on Thursday said it has signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to create 30,000 entrepreneurial opportunities for independent driver-partners, foster technological innovation to build smart cities and promote socio-economic development of the state.

"Uber is pleased to announce our landmark partnership agreement with the state government to drive innovation, create tens of thousands of entrepreneurship opportunities, and provide safe, reliable transport options for people of this state," said Uber India president Amit Jain.

"We are deeply committed to the local communities in which we operate, and look forward to leveraging our global expertise to deliver new solutions to make Chennai a city of the future," he added.

Currently, Uber operates in 22 Indian cities -- more than in any other country outside the US.
