Gurgaon police chief on 'special' leave

Gurgaon, Sep 10 (IANS): Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk has gone on 'special' leave for a week, amid an ongoing probe into the alleged rape of two Nepali women by a Saudi diplomat and his friends.

When IANS asked about the reason for Virk's leave, senior police officials said it was a "routine" holiday.

Police sources told IANS that Virk will be on leave at least till September 13.

Although the commissioner is on leave, statements to the press are being released in his name.

On Thursday, a delegation from the Nepal embassy visited the police commissioner's office to enquire about the rape case.

The delegation came to know that the top official was on leave, but said they were satisfied as Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar briefed them about the progress in the case.
