Ukraine sees first shooting-free day since 2014

Kiev, Sep 12 (IANS): A truce between government troops and independence-seeking insurgents has resulted in the first free-of-shooting day since the conflict in eastern regions erupted in April 2014, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said here on Friday.

"Today is the first day in a year and a half, when there were no shooting and combat casualties in the past 24 hours," Xinhua quoted Poroshenko as saying at the 12th Yalta European Strategy conference in Kiev on Friday.

The insurgent leadership confirmed that there were no ceasefire violations in Donetsk and Lugansk regions since Thursday.
