Mangalore, Jul 5: Dr B R Ambedkar Foundation (Pratishthana) has flayed the administration for keeping the dalit community still in dark over many issues and not trying to solve many problems faced the community even after 60 years of independence.
Speaking in a press meet here on Wednesday July 4, Shivappa Rankedeguthu, state president of the Pratishthana alleged that though the dalit community has put forth their demands from time to time, there have been very less or rather no efforts from government to fulfill most of them. He blamed the administration for poverty and illiteracy which has pushed the dalit community to the brink of misery even after independence.
On behalf of his community he once again put forth 9 demands which is said that that need to be addressed at the earliest.
The Foundation urged the concerned authorities to reopen the murder of Shivappa Bangera, a resident of Kadabettu of Bantwal taluk. The Foundation will also protest against the hike in the bus fare and the assault on Fr Sylvester Pereira, a Carmelite priest.
Dalits should be protected from violence and the government should punish the police if any violation of law is observed from their side, he stated. The state government should call for a special recruitment drive to fill the backlog vacancies at the earliest, said the state president.
Ivan Rusky, K Salu Belthangady, Shivappa Attole Savanuru and Shiva Prakash were also present in the press meet.
