Japan flood toll rises to five


Tokyo, Sep 13 (IANS): The toll in floods which devastated Japan this week rose to five on Sunday as rescuers continued their search for over a dozen still missing, the media reported.

The National Police Agency said a man was found dead in a submerged car in Tochigi city on Sunday, NHK news agency reported.

This brought the number of deaths in Tochigi prefecture to three.

Two other people were killed in Miyagi prefecture.

A total of 29 people have been hurt across 10 prefectures.

Search operations have continued with a total of 1,800 rescuers, including police, firemen, and the Self-Defence Forces (SDF,) scrabbling to find 15 people still missing from the town.
