Vietnam prepares to brace tropical storm Vamco

Hanoi, Sep 14 (IANS): Vietnam is preparing to brace against tropical storm Vamco which is heading to its central localities on Monday.

The authorities in Da Nang, some 600 km south of capital Hanoi, have banned fishing boats from venturing out, while students have not been attending school since Monday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Da Nang's border guard force has contacted over 1,270 fishermen onboard 138 fishing boats offshore, guiding them to take shelter.

Tropical storm Vamco is forecast to make landfall in Da Nang on Monday night, Vietnam's National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said.

Central localities from Da Nang City to Binh Dinh province have been warned of floods and landslides.

Vamco will be the third tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year.
