New civil aviation policy to take off soon: Raju


Chennai, Sep 14 (IANS): The draft new civil aviation policy is in final stages of preparation and will be soon be put in the public for comments, Civil Aviation Minister P.Ashok Gajapathi Raju said on Monday.

Speaking to reporters at Coimbatore, around 500 km from here, Raju said the preparation of the new civil aviation policy has reached an advanced stage and the draft will be placed in the public domain for comments before it is finalised.

Asked about increasing the international connectivity out of Coimbatore, he said several airlines have not started their service even after signing bilateral agreements.

On the issue of expanding the city airport, Raju said land acquisition is a state subject and once the state government gives the necessary land, the ministry would start its work.

Referring to the Chennai airport, he said the new construction was shoddy.
