Left seeks probe after voter cards found in Kolkata garbage bin

Kolkata, Sep 14 (IANS): A day after over 1000 voter identity cards were recovered from a garbage bin in the city, the Left Front on Monday demanded a probe into the matter by the West Bengal chief electoral officer.

"The motive behind throwing the EPICs in a garbage vat should be unearthed and those involved behind this should be punished. We therefore urge you to inquire the matter and take necessary action," the Left Front said in a letter to the CEO.

The Elector's Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), belonging to residents of Garden Reach, Metiabruz, and Mahestala areas of the city, were recovered from a garbage vat on the Diamond Harbour Road on Sunday.

Left front major Communist Party of India-Marxist has also filed a police complaint in the matter.
