Rajasthan to encourage biotechnology, startups


Jaipur, Sep 14 (IANS): Rajasthan has decided to encourage biotechnology and startups in a "big way", Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said on Monday.

Facilities, conducive environment and sops on the lines of Karnataka will be provided by the state government, she said while addressing the closing session of the second meeting of the Chief Minister's Advisory Council.

"We feel that that these two sectors -- biotechnology and startups -- can play an important role in the development of the state as they will not only increase investment but will also give a fillip to job opportunities," said Raje.

Raje said the state was focusing on sectors like health, education, skill development, tourism, urban development, energy, industry, agriculture and mining.

Ajay S. Shriram, member of the advisory council, spoke on generating employment opportunities, while Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon Limited spoke on biotechnology, said a statement issued by the state government.
