Udupi, Jul 5: There will be a change in weekly market days in Adi Udupi and Santhekatte near Kallianpur here with immediate effect as per the order of deputy commissioner. The order was passed by deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj here on Wednesday July 4.
Owing to public interest and smooth flow of traffic, the weekly market of Santhekatte is shifted to Wednesday from the existing day of Sunday while, the weekly market of Adi Udupi which used to be on Wednesday is shifted to Sunday.
Earlier, Ponnuraj visited APMC market and inspected the entire system there. He opined that it is better to start the central market here after the renovation of the spot.
He has also discussed with officials about the shifting of weekly market of Udyavar and Santhekatte to Adi Udupi. Traffic on National Highway 17 gets affected owing to weekly market in Udyavar and Santhekatte. Hence, it is better to shift the weekly markets from there, he said.
