Lightning kills three women in Telangana


Hyderabad, Sep 15 (IANS): Three women were killed and one injured due to lightning in Telangana on Tuesday, officials said.

The women were working in an agricultural field near Dupalli in Ranjol mandal of Nizamabad district when struck by lightning. The deceased have been identified as Lakshmi (45), Vani (22) and Sangeeta (17).

The injured was admitted to a government-run hospital.

Lightning accompanied by rains over last one week has claimed about 30 lives in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Majority of the deaths were reported from neighboring Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, rains continued to lash parts of the two states under the impact of low pressure area over Bay of Bengal. Heavy rains in Hyderabad on Tuesday inundated low-lying areas and roads, affecting the vehicular traffic.

According to met department, Araku valley in Visakhapatnam received 27 cm rainfall during last 24 hours. Many other parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema also received good rainfall.

Rain also occurred in many parts of Telangana. Parkal in Warangal district received highest rainfall of 11 cm.

Southwest monsoon is active over Telangana. The met office has forecast rains in both the state over next five days. It also warned of heavy to very heavy fall at isolated places.
