Tibetan parliament concerned over situation in Tibet

Dharamsala, Sep 15 (IANS): The Tibetan parliament-in-exile on the first day of its session on Tuesday discussed ways to resolve the critical situation in Tibet and to alleviate the sufferings of the people there.

In his opening address, Speaker Penpa Tsering spoke about the critical situation in Tibet under the repressive policies of the Chinese government, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said in a statement.

He said parliament remained concerned about the deteriorating political and human rights situation inside Tibet and called for a quick resolution of the Tibet issue.

Tsering also spoke about the social and political developments taking place in mainland China fuelled by the country's rapid economic growth.

He urged the Tibetans to analyse these developments to make better use of the opportunities provided by such circumstances.

The first day of the Tibetan parliament also unanimously passed five resolutions. These included solidarity with the Tibetans inside Tibet and homage to former president of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959.

The Tibetan exile administration is based in this northern Indian hill town.
