Venkatesh Prasanna - an indiscreet aberration in an otherwise brilliant career

Mangalore, Jul 7: Pandeshwar police circle inspector Venkatesh Prasanna, who has earned a name with a few encounter killings of alleged criminals, appeared to have himself encountered a piquant situation.

The Lok Ayukta police from Mangalore raided his apartment in Pandeshwar on Saturday, July 7 evening and found him keeping a seized car in his custody and using it for personal purposes.

Lokayukta SP Chandrashekhar Prasad conducted the raid into Venkatesh Prasannas’ apartment at Dhomappa Compound and seized the silver grey Tata Indigo car which was being misused by him.

In fact, the car had been seized by the Pandeshwar police some months ago. Venkatesh was using this car after changing the number plate. Hence, a complaint was sent to Deputy Lokayukta at Bangalore by some anonymous persons. Hence, a search warrant was issued to Lok Ayukta SP of Mangalore to search for the car.

When Lokayukta SP looked for the car at Venkatesh Prasannas’ house, they found the car there. Although the registration plate had been changed, the car was identified with the help of chassis and engine numbers, which had remained intact. Now, the car is under the custody of Lokayukta SP.

Action

When contacted, Dakshina Kannada SP Satishkumar said that appropriate action would be taken against Venkatesh Prasanna after receiving a report from Lokayukta. At present, he is waiting for Lokayukta report, he informed.

Sad case

Venkatesh Prasanna has a lot of admirers in town, for he is quite well educated. He was recently honoured by the department for successful encounter killings. He is an eloquent speaker and stars at functions as compere.

It is ironical that an officer with a record of having seized several vehicles involved in smuggling, murder and other acts of crimes now himself  is found in unauthorized possession of a seized vehicle. A close associate of his said it could be a permanent blot on his otherwise brilliant career.

If you are a cop, irrespective of your rank, be it a lowly constable or the highest rank, i.e. the DGP, and want to lead a trouble and hassle-free life, you have to shun limelight or avoid hogging publicity and avoid being conspicuous. Cops live in quarters or bungalows provided by the Police Department and avoid coddling high profle people or personalities and do not indulge in luxurious living by displaying vehicles, possessing landed property, etc., bought with bribes or purportedly given by admirers, as per the claims of an encounter specialist.

This could lead to the cops getting into problems. Secondly, encounters do not take by chance, but due to concrete information that the police receive from their informers, who are paid as per the information they impart. In a city, the police informer could be innocuous looking paan walla, cobbler, boot polisher, barber, etc., etc.

So readers, please understand that encounters between the criminals or the underwold do not happen due to chance or accidentally, but due to concrete information they receive.

“Lokayukta SP Chandrashekhar Prasad conducted the raid into Venkatesh Prasannas’ apartment at Dhomappa Compound and seized the silver grey Tata Indigo car which was being misused by him.” Arrey Yaar…..please have a heart…… May be by driving the vehicle, Prasanna saab may have been trying to attract those who were earlier familiar with the particular vehicle and its “occupant” who might have been their old boss or colleague and having noticed the vehicle, would have come forward to say “Hai”, and in the process get themselves trapped and nabbed.

Don’t be surprised if Prasanna saab may have studied Chanakya’s or Birbal’s law management books. After all, haven’t you heard the good ol saying “Birds of the same feather always flock together”

This is a wake up call to our top officials  to investigate in detail how those encounters happened.  Of course you will find that this cop did not follow the proper law of the great Indian government. If it does not happen , then we have to consider all those officials in India are of the same kind  as Venkatesh Prasanna (espacially in Karnataka - everything they do for money and name).

We should not jump to conclusions based on this incident. This could have been a staged incident. Remember the officer was involved in many high profile cases & has many highly connected enemies

Venkatesh Prasanna should be suspended for life from police force and fix him in the cases like robbery & murder (so called encounters). Fixing anybody in any fake cases by the police is what I've expeirenced.

It is a blot on Inspector who should be the protector of the law and order. Kaaki no more signifies the symbolism of honesty and sincerity. He should be punished as per law which gives a sense of trust and lesson to other officials who may venture out in future.

I think it's time the media stops glorifying policemen who are neck deep in corrpution. Moreover, the encounter that the correspondent is referring to was obviously fake one, and he is liable to be prosecuted if the rule of law were to be truly implemeneted The inspector seems to have not only misused the car, but has also changed registration numbers for his personal use. After this pathetic act, I don't see any difference between Mr. Venkatesh Prasanna and an ordinary thief, except the uniform he is wearing.
