'New technology, research needed to fight climate change'

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS): Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday pitched for new research and technology to combat the affects of climate change.

"If human intervention has caused climate change, with human intent and intellect and with new research and technology, we will win this war against climate change," he said while addressing a gathering from various Delhi and NCR schools on the occasion of 21st International Day for the preservation of the ozone layer.

"This win will give the people a better life... that they deserve," he said

On January 23, 1995, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution which proclaimed September 16 as the International Day for the Preservation of the ozone layer, or the protective layer in the earth's stratosphere that absorbs most of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
