Leading industry bodies in CeBIT India

Bengaluru, Sep 16 (IANS): Leading industry associations and apex bodies will participate in the country's biggest technology expo CeBIT India here on October 29-31 to showcase latest ICT products and services.

Organised by Hannover Milano Fairs India Ltd, a subsidiary of the joint venture Deutsche Messe (Germany) and Fiera Milano group (Italy), the three-day event will be held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on the city's outskirts.

"ICT industry associations like STPI, MAIT, CLIK, FAIITA and FITDAK and chambers' apex body Ficci are partnering with us in the expo to further India's digital economy," Hannover Milano Fairs India managing director Mehul Lanvers-Shah told reporters here on Wednesday.

State-run Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT), Consortium of Electronic Industries of Karnataka (CLIK), Federation of All-India IT Association (FAIITA) and Federation of IT Dealers' Association-Karnataka (FITDAK) are part of the country's information and communications technology (ICT) eco-system, while Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) represents the user industry spanning manufacturing and trade.

About 200 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are also participating in the trade fair through to display their offerings to the stakeholders.

According to the department of electronics and information technology, the country imports electronic goods valued at $100 billion annually and is estimated to touch $400 billion by 2020 if domestic manufacturing fails to keep pace with the growing demand for digital products and solutions.

"To reduce supply-demand deficit met through imports, we will support the government's Digital India programme by creating opportunities and a market place for ICT enterprises," said Shah.
