Mumbai, Jul 9: Maharashtra governor S M Krishna has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former prime minister of India and veteran socialist leader Chandra Shekhar in New Delhi on Sunday, July 8, 2007.
In a condolence message, the governor has said:"Shri Chandra Shekhar was one of the finest products of India's socialist movement who dominated the political scene at the national level for close to four decades. He was a firebrand leader with a rebellious streak that separated him from his contemporary leaders. As a youth, Shri Chandra Shekhar was inspired by veteran leaders like Acharya Narendra Dev and JaiPrakash Narayan. To his credit he turned out to be a worthy successor of the socialist leaders. An outstanding Parliamentarian, Shri Chandra Shekhar had total grasp of the national and international issues and lent his voice to raise the problems of the common people. His death has snatched from us a towering leader with genuine concern for the people. I join the nation and the people of Maharashtra in offering my respectful tribute to Shri Chandra Shekhar."
