41 hospitalised after China chemical plant leak


Beijing, Sep 18 (IANS): At least 41 people have been hospitalised after a synthetic ammonia leak at a chemical plant in Henan province in central China on Friday morning, local authorities government said.

At about 6.30 a.m. at Henan Zhonghong Coal Chemical Company, 300 kg of synthesised ammonia leaked from a cracked pipe, Xinhua reported.

A total of 154 residents that live nearby were sent to hospital. Forty-one remain under observation, including five in serious condition.

The government said ammonia detected in the air near the site is within the national standard.

Plant operations have been suspended.
