Bihar, Sep 19 (Agencies): After making controversial remarks on APJ Abdul Kalam and Indian Muslims, Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma has said night out by girls was against the India culture.
"Girls wanting a night out may be all right elsewhere but it is not part of Indian culture," Sharma told
He also said he opposed "westernisation in the name of modernisation." He clarified that he was willing to take all good things of west, but would not follow it blindly.
After his latest remarks triggered a row, Sharma tweeted on Saturday saying his statements had being distorted.
The 54-year-old first time MP from Noida, has made a string of controversial statements in the recent days seeking to uphold Indian culture.
In an interview with India Today, he had said former President APJ Kalam was a "was a nationalist despite being a Muslim.'
