Clashes erupt in Kashmir's Anantnag


Srinagar, Sep 19 (IANS): Clashes erupted in Kashmir Valley's Anantnag town on Saturday following the arrest of some youth involved in stone-pelting incidents.

A shutdown was also observed in the town with shops, public transport and schools remaining closed. Banks and other government offices witnessed thin attendance.

Locals alleged that police and paramilitary force personnel had barged into houses and ransacked household items in Cheeni Chowk, Malakhnag and Reshi Bazar areas of the town on Friday evening after clashes between stone pelting youth and police.

On Saturday morning, protesters came on roads triggering clashes with police in many parts of the town and clashes continued till last reports came in.
