Four minors die as wall collapses in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sep 21 (IANS): Four minors, including two girls, died after a mud wall collapsed on them in Odisha's Ganjam district on Monday, an official said.

The incident occurred when the four children were playing near an under-construction house at Kalajamuna village in the district, revenue official Shaktikant Ray said.

While three children died on the spot, the fourth victim succumbed to injuries in hospital, the official said.

The deceased have been identified as Shrabani Mallick, Nandini Mallick, Sanjib Sahu and Seshadev Mallick.

Sources said incessant rain since the last three days in the southern parts of the state might have weakened the earthen wall of the house, which caved in leading to the death of the four children.

The bodies have been sent to the hospital for autopsy.

In another mishap, two boys drowned in a pond in Jagabandhunagar in Berhampur city during idol immersion on Sunday. The fire department fished out the bodies from the pond on Monday.
