Madikeri, Sep 23: One can term it as a small theft worth Rs 100 or less. But as per law, it is a theft. And when it happens from the people who are supposed to enforce law, then it is a big issue. One such theft of a CFL bulb, during their daily beat, has put the policemen in a fix and it has become statewide news.
Two policemen in Suntikoppa near here were on night patrol of the town. When they passed by an electronic shop, they felt like stealing the CFL bulb outside the shop. And they did what they wanted.
When the owner came to his shop the next day, he did not find the CFL bulb outside the shop. He did not take it lightly, but checked his CCTV records. When he saw the scene in the video recording, he was stunned to learn that two policemen had stolen the CFL bulb.
One policeman lifting another to take out the bulb from the wall could be seen in the video. The video has received a good TRP when it was circulated in the social media and the policemen in question have become a laughing stock.
It is said that the higher authorities in the police department are ‘silently’ investigating the matter to save the police ‘faces’ as no police complaint has been lodged.
Meanwhile the two police ‘thieves’ have been trying hard to make a ‘compromise’ with the shop owner through mediators as they do not want to be caught negotiating.
