Mangaluru: Suratkal inspector Cheluvaraj injured as bus smashes into his car

Mangaluru, Sep 23: Inspector Cheluvaraj of Suratkal police station was injured in an accident near Mukka here on Wednesday September 23.

It is said that a Navadurga bus plying from Mangaluru came hurtling on the wrong side and smashed into the cop's private car.

As work is going on at Suratkal toll gate, there was heavy traffic jam near Mukka and the route was made one way. Inspector Cheluvaraj had gone to the spot to clear the gridlock.

When he was returning from the spot in his private car, the speeding bus approached from the wrong side and rammed into his car, it is learnt. Cheluvaraj was driving the car and was alone. The car was badly damaged.

The cop who sustained head injuries was rushed to hospital.

The Suratkal police have arrested the driver and registered a case.

    The driver of this bus is working as a driver for more than 20 years. He is not a rash driver.
    I would rather blame in this case, the temporary diversions on the highway without warnings without indication. There are no safety management at all. Totally unprofessional. This is the reason our INDIA is still a third world country and thousands of people die immature deaths on road on daily basis.

    Ahmed, I have travelled recently in this very bus and I was just praying that I reach safely to my home!. Absolutely this bus was violating every road rule and this accident is no accident but something waiting to happen since long!. Just it was luck that nothing happened earlier!. This accident at least should open the eyes of corrupt RTO and Traffic police!. Diversions are there but why a speed of 100 KMPH when the distance between Mangalore and Udupi is only 60 KMS!???.The time allotted for express buses between these two cities is 90 minutes!. That means they should drive at 40 KMPH but we can allow maximum 60 KMPH if traffic bottle necks are considered!. But 100 to 120 KMPH is nonsense!

    Get Well soon Inspector .
    I do Hope at least now the POlice wake up n book these errant drivers. At Surathkal itself one is forced to drive the 300 mts stretch on the Wrong side ,thanks to the Deliberately wrongly designed Flyover . repeated requests to Put Warning Boards (beware of approaching Traffic )
    have met with no Success.
    The Xpress bus/service bus drivers drive at high speeds ,Honking away, even close to the Service Bus stand right under the nose of the Policemen posted there.
    Crossing the Road is a painful thing.
    Why cant NHAI put up the necessary Warning Boards.(30 KMPH n Approaching Traffic).
    I do hope the Corporators n MLA do something.

    God save the people from the deadly buses who have no rules at all. They care a damn about anybody else on the road. They bully other vehicles to move to the footpath and give way for them.
    There were numerous occasions when I had to just stop my vehicle fearing being crushed.
    Neither traffic rules nor the police could tame these monsters on the highways.
    So only God should save us.

    HE MIGHT HAVE PROTECTED DRIVERS IN 1000 SUCH ACCIDENT CASES ON A DAILY BASIS FOR GAINS. THAT IS WHY BUS DRIVERS DON'T CARE ATTITUDE COST HIM NOW.
    AT LEAST NOW ONWARDS HE SHOULD THINK OF SUFFERERS LIKE HIM AND THIS WILL BE A CAUTION TO OTHERS LIKE HIM WHO ACT IRRESPONSIBLY.
    WEALTH IS NOTHING INFRONT OF LIVES.

    mangalore and udupi people should fire up the Bus in case any bus accident happens , this lesson will control the bus owner/driver.

    As long as private bus owners are ministers in state government, private bus drivers will behave like "yama dooths" and accidents , injury, deaths are bound to happen in coastal karnataka

    Ha ha ha... Very funny.. Case booked... Arrested... He would have driving by now.. In the same bus, same route... And the driver will walk scratch less ...in few days

    unless reckless driving is considered as offence something similar to "attempt to murder", nothing will change and these reckless drivers/murderers will take many innocent lives on road and escape scot-free with title "Accident".

    it may be a wake up call for the authorities to realise how a common man is driving against the monster express drivers. I feel for Inspector Cheluvaraj and I am sure he will recover faster. But at least the authorities ( police / RTO ) will whole heartedly work to get all of us out of this of mess , having killing expresses busses rammed upon the innocent lives.

    'Navadurga'buses are in news from my childhood back in 1985-88-till now, Aikala,Niddodi,Kinnigoly,moodabidri,Mulky even in highways,
    Most of the time wrong side, overtaking,hitting electric pole and pole falls on biker and same biker to bang pedestrian this is history of NAVADURGA! buses

    Almost all Mangalore-Udupi express buses violate every single road rule with impunity but a special mention should be made of some demonic buses like Navadurga Prasad, Pereira, AKMS, Durgamba, SRKT etc which are like deadly terrorists of road!

    No... No... All LTTE suicide squad retired or escaped were recruited as drivers here.... People talk about GPRS this... that.... why it is not possible to control speed automatically through satellite technology ? Speed Governors can be violated or dismantled by the LTTE squad. A control system directly built-in in the engine to remotely control via satellite systems is need of the hour....
