Mangaluru: Withdrawal of Indira Gandhi stamps: Youth Congress locks up post office in protest

Mangaluru, Sep 24: The district Youth Congress on Wednesday September 23 protested against the central government for its decision to withdraw stamps bearing the images of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.

The protestors symbolically locked up the head post office at Pandeshwar to register their protest.

Addressing the protest, district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, "Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were two great personalities who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Indira Gandhi was a great lady who brought about the Land Reforms Act. Moreover, 8 or 9 countries also have stamps in her name.

"Rajiv Gandhi gave voting rights to youth above 18 years and also brought revolution in the field of information technology. But the BJP-led government has withdrawn their stamps as part of its strategy against the Congress," he added.

"When Congress-led government was in power, it did not withdraw stamps in A B Vajpayee's name. We will hold protest at the state level if BJP does not restore the postal stamps on Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi," he said.

More than 200 protestors gathered and shouted slogans against the BJP-led central government.

Corporator Praveen Chandra Alva, Lathif, Meryill Rego and others present were present.

    We have stamps of most of the Nehru family members including Mothilal, Jawaharlal, Kamala, Vijaya, Indira, Rajiv, etc.

    Please print the stamps of Firoz Khan, Syed Hossain, etc. who married Nehru family ladies and made sacrifice for the country.

    Indira Gandhis tall image cannot be compared with PM's resumed thereafter her death. She was a great lady and lead NAM movement forward cornering USA. Though pakistan was blue was blue eyed boy of USA she liberated bangladesh from PAK clutches. Unfortunately she was the victim of conspiracy.     With withdrawal of Indira G.and R. Gandhi s stamps our Indian govt.is making a great mistake and making whole world to laugh at us.stop this.These two atleast Indira G.made in India with her great guts a big Name and brought big Revolution.withdrawel of payment of Rajas or Banks Nationalizing and she was the first one regarding Bangladesh to be recognize as free.Only she made mistake of entering Sikhs prayer house to lookout for arms.But they were murdered during their time as Minister.why dont they leave it as before?How does it disturb them?because of new Govt.?to make it famous?Never.They were our Prestige names and will remain further so.what will our govt wants?to make stamps of Godsey?or cows?or a murderer?whole world is giving respect to Indira G.like other Ladys of Britain or Israel.Todays MInisters are not having that leading capacity what a woman had.Of course today hardly anyone uses stamps but they are there .
