Mangaluru, Sep 24: A person, who cheated a young lady with the promise of providing employment to her, and who circulated the video pictures of her to tarnish the image, has been convicted and sentenced.
Ashok (38) from Kodyadka near Moodbidri is the person convicted at the 6th additional and sessions court in Mangaluru as per the information technology act and other sections of the Indian penal code.
As per the details of the case, the accused brought the young girl aged 21 years to Mangaluru on February 2009 with the promise that he would help her to get a job. Then he took her to Mysuru and Mumbai. A missing complaint was lodged then at Moodbidri police station. When the girl returned home after few days, she said that she had gone to her friend’s house and accordingly the case was closed.
But when the girl learned that some video of her were being circulated in the Kodyadka area in the third week of June 2010, she came to know that it was done by Ashok. Then on July 4 of 2010, she went to the Moodbidri police station and complained regarding the matter. Inspector Shiva Prakash R Nayak who investigated the matter filed the charge sheet against Ashok later.
Judge B Puttaranga Swamy from the 6th additional and sessions court in Mangaluru on September 23, found Ashok guilty on the charges as per sections 417 (cheating) and section 507 Criminal intimidation) of IPC section and as per sections 66 E and 67 A of information technology act and gave out punishments of 3 months, 6 months, 6 months and 6 months respectively for the charges proved.
The convict has been asked to pay Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 fines for the two offences proved under information technology act. If he fails to pay both the prescribed fines, he will spend 2 months and 2 months separately in jail, the court said. The court also said that Rs 35,000 will go as compensation to the victim.
Rape charges could not be proved due to lack of evidence. Judith Margaret Crasta was the public prosecutor in the case. P M Ramakrishna from Hyderabad forensic lab had prepared the forensic report. Many witnesses from Kodyadka had testified in the case.
