Haryana teachers' test: Women applicants double number of men

Chandigarh, Sep 25 (IANS): For a state which has the worst sex ratio in the country, Haryana has something to cheer about also. The number of women applicants for Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test is more than double that of men.

A total of 458,514 candidates, including 309,037 women, would appear in the test 2014-15 to be held on November 14 and 15, a spokesman of the Haryana Board of School Education said here.

Haryana has the worst sex ratio at 879 females per 1,000 males.

The child sex ratio in Haryana is worst among all states in the country. Out of the 100 worst districts in India for sex ratio, Haryana accounts for 12 districts.

The spokesman said strict steps would be taken to ensure smooth conduct of the examination and to effectively check the use of unfair means.

"Mobile jammers would be used at the examination centres to prevent the use of mobile phones for cheating. Bio-metric machines would be used to prevent impersonation cases. Videography would be done at all examination centres," he said.
