20-year-old student from Udupi dies in accident near Sringeri

Udupi, Sep 26: A youth from Udupi died in an accident near Sringeri on Friday September 26.

The deceased has been identified as Ritesh Salian (20), son of Ramesh and Hema Salian.

It is said that Friday being a public holiday, seven students of MGM College, Udupi left for Sringeri in bikes. The students were Ritesh, Vijay, Kaushik, Aditya, Gautam, Allen and Aditya Samaga.

Ritesh was riding pillion with Aditya. At Boloor curve on the border of Sringeri police limits, a Swift Desire car approched the bike from the opposite direction, and Aditya, who was riding, panicked and applied sudden brakes, it is said. Ritesh fell on the road while the bike hit the car.

Ritesh who sustained serious head injuries was rushed to a hospital in Sringeri, but he breathed his last on the way.

The body was brought to Udupi after post-mortem.

Ritesh was the only son of his parents. The family is poor. His father Ramesh is employed as worker in a hotel while mother Hema is a housewife. Originally from Indrali, the family is presently staying in a rented house behind MGM College. Ritesh was a second year BA student.

    Many may not be knowing that majority of low cost helmets are designed 'unscientifically' and while protecting the cranium mostly there is a spinal cord injury in the sensitive neck region, which if severe leads to total paralysis (quadriplegia) making the victim a vegetable for life and thus a big burden on others!!

    RIP bro!!
    Seeing the daily deaths of two wheeler riders in DK, this areas road topography combined with reckless and undisciplined driving is a strict NO NO for two wheelers as there is high probability of dying or getting maimed permanently in case of an accident!!

    Even helmets can help protect head injuries, but not to vital organs like the spinal column, abdominal organs etc. which too can be fatal!! So many youngsters who have survived are leading a paralytic life (all limbs) due to spinal cord injuries, which suffering is worse than sudden death!!

    Youngsters especially should not be encouraged to use two wheelers!!

    Parents of youngsters should not encourage them to go on long rides.Loosing a youngster at such age will be heartbreaking for parents. Helmets should be made compulsory for pillion riders also. May his soul rest in peace.

    Many have asked question, how to prevent this? some suggestions are here:
    1.Pavilion rider must compulsorily wear proper helmet, properly
    2.24X7 ambulance service standing at each 30km distance ( stand by waiting at 15 k distance)
    3. Riders / pillion rider to wear proper bike riding dress
    4. With new model bikes coming on road, safety measures and road standards are not reviewed. Strictly road speed limits are to be monitored.
    4. Riders and all vehicle drivers to respect road and weather condition while riding
    5. Proper sign boards on road warnings/ humps and curves etc
    6.Review and restrict new model speed limits- before they get released.

     I dont think on Indian roads we should have above 80k speed limit bikes since road speed limits do not permit.
    I am aware that some of these measures are eduction and awareness related where as others needs lot of monitoring and implementation. Easier said than done.. but it has to start from somewhere to safeguard the interest of our near and dear ones....

    Sad news RIP. What we can say for the deaths of two wheeler riders. It has become so common that every day there is news of bike accident and deaths. Two wheeler has become vehicle of Yamaraya these days. No solution is seen due to the nature of the roads, reckless driving by two wheelers and other heavy vehicle drivers, over crowded vehicles on the road, no one way system ...........When a person of a family is on a two wheeler tension remains until he reaches home safely.

    These kids don't get it, their parent’s struggles so hard to make ends meets but the kids don't care a dam. They only want to show off with bikes and cars to impress. When they get holidays they just want to go gallivanting, they want even try and help their parents in the house...
