Hungary removes razor fence from Slovenian border

Budapest, Sep 26 (IANS): Hungary removed several hundred metres of razor wire fence from the Slovenian border after its official expression of "not planning to build a fence on the Slovenian border".

All razor wire had been removed by late Friday, Xinhua news agency cited Murska Sobota police from the Slovenian border region with Hungary as saying on Friday.

It is unclear why exactly Hungary decided to put up razor wire in the first place and there was some confusion on Friday as the wire was being removed from some sections and installed at others at the same time, according to the media reports.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday said his government was not planning to build a fence on the Slovenian border.

Field work was under way on the border to "clean up" a strip of land and make it suitable for deploying mobile equipments, he said.
