Mangaluru, Sep 26: Seven new houses for the poor, built by St Vincent De Paul Society (SSVP), Bondel at a total cost of Rs 21 lac, were inaugurated at Acchukody, Pachanady here on Saturday September 26. The houses are enclosed in a complex.
Fr Andrew D'Souza, parish priest of Bondel Church blessed the premises.
Fr Andrew D'Souza in his presidential address congratulated the office-bearers of St Vincent De Paul Society on taking up such a noble cause.
"I have rendered service as priest in many churches and I have seen that people in this particular parish have a lot of concern for the poor. I thank St Vincent De Paul Society members and donors without whom this would not have been possible. I thank all those who have contributed towards this noble cause," Fr Andrew D'Souza said.
"The amount is not important, what really counts is that one has contributed. Providing homes to the poor is the greatest form of work, and today St Vincent De Paul Society members have done it," he said.
Joseph Francis D'souza, founder and former president of St Vincent De Paul Society said, "Bondel parish has always been ahead in giving homes to the poor. As of now, the church has given many homes to the poor and now seven more houses have been inaugurated. God has been great to us. I congratulate all the members of St Vincent De Paul Society for taking up such a noble cause."
Prakash Pinto, president of St Vincent De Paul Society welcomed the gathering while Neris Dais, secretary of SSVP thanked the gathering.
Fr Jason Monis, assistant parish priest, Bondel Church, Henbert Pinto, vice-president, Wilfred Alvares, secretary, Rudy Pinto, former vice-president, Reginald D'souza, former secretary of SSVP, Ronald Lasrado, former president of SSVP, Lancy D'Cunha, vice president, All India Catholic Union, Sunil Steevan Vas, area council president, SSVP and others were present.
