Hyundai to recall 569,500 vehicles in US

Washington, Sep 26 (IANS/EFE): Hyundai Motor Co. said it plans to recall a total of 569,500 Sonata and Accent model vehicles in the United States.

The larger recall affects 470,000 Sonatas with 2.0 and 2.4 litre gasoline engines produced in late 2011 and early 2012 at the South Korean automaker's plant in Alabama.

Hyundai said the problem involves a possible failure to remove metallic debris from around the crankshaft, which could lead the engine to stall.

The second recalls affects 99,500 Accent vehicles manufactured between 2009 and 2011 that have a defective switch in the brake-light system.

Hyundai told the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it knew of no accidents or injuries caused by the defects in the affected vehicles.
