Tata Hitachi concerned over 'industrial peace' in Bengal

Kolkata, Sep 26 (IANS): Construction machinery company, Tata Hitachi on Saturday expressed concerns about the prevalent scenario with "industrial peace" in West Bengal.

The company which has a manufacturing plant in Kharagpur in the state's West Midnapore district complained that such peace was lacking in its area of operations and is gradually becoming an aspect to worry about.

"Industrial peace is difficult to find here,' the company's head of human resources, Indu Singh told the state Finance Minister Amit Mitra here during an interactive session organised by the CII.

Her concern was over the company's dealings with contractual labourers for the manufacturing plant in the state.

"This problem is here and not in other states," she said.

Singh said that earlier an issue impacting the firm's operations was brought to the notice of the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and resolved soon.

Mitra, while urging the industry to bring such issues as they crop up has assured the Tata Motors and Japan-based HCM's joint venture company that the issue will be looked into.

"I assure you that necessary interventions will be made," he said.

The finance minister, during the session's proceedings had pointed out about putting an end to extremist activities in some areas of the state which had brought peace.
